Connecting enthusiastic volunteers with passionate students
Become a Buddy
No experience is required to be a study buddy - only a healthy dose of interest and enthusiasm, as well as a readiness to commit to meeting regularly with your student and working hard together.
How do I become a buddy?
-
If you are interested in becoming a buddy please start by filling out this brief form. At the end of the form you will choose a time for a phone call.
-
During this conversation, we will tell you more about our program and learn about you and why you want to work with us.
-
If you are a good match for Study Buddies we will let you know and you will attend a short training and get initiated into our tutor community. After your training we will match you with a family and help you get started!
Being a Buddy
We expect that our buddies are dedicated, communicative and caring. As a buddy your responsibilities will include -
-
Planning and sticking to a meeting schedule. Regular interaction with your Buddy is the foundation of this program! We will help you and your family choose a time that works for everyone and we expect you to be able to commit to that time. To participate as a Buddy, you need to be available to tutor at least one hour a week.
-
Communicating with your family and with us: You will be expected to communicate regularly with your student's family, informing them how the student is doing. We will check in with you regularly to see if you need any support from us-- we expect you to reply in a timely manner.
-
Engaging with your Buddy and your tutor community with enthusiasm, consistency, and compassion.
-
Attending training sessions and check-ins.
Reflecting: We expect all Buddies to have a growth mindset and be excited to learn from their student and from other Buddies in our community. We expect you to learn from your experiences and mistakes and approach this job as an opportunity to develop.
Join Our Community
When you become a buddy, you are agreeing to join an affirming community of fellow community oriented students! This is a great chance to connect with others and make new friends. You will meet other buddies in your training and you will have the chance to be a part of a support group that meets once a month.
